Wild Swimming

Twenty days into March and there are no signs that the pace in the Lewis household is slowing down!

Aside from business as usual our month has been punctuated with family reunions, milestone birthdays and food with friends! How’s it panning out for you? The sunshine and lighter evenings kinda give you an energy boost too don’t they?

This month heralds the start of Ironman race season around the globe. Shed loads of luck go out to Sheddie Simon Biltcliffe, who is off to compete in his first Ironman in Mexico next weekend! Ironmen-in-training David & Runa are jetting off to Lanzarote next weekend to train in the heat, wind and volcanic terrain before they return to the island in May to take on the notorious Ironman Lanzarote…also first timers!

Brave Sheddie Philippa Brown spent last weekend wild swimming in Wales. A company called Gone Swimming organise ‘wet weekends’ swimming at various quiet locations in North Wales. They look and sound brilliant. This is what Philippa said…

Hi Jane I thought I would write a few lines about my wild swimming weekend in Wales, maybe you can add it into your Loop; it might appeal to a few Sheddies! “Gone Swimming” is run by a couple who offer swimming weekends based around North Wales. You stay in a cottage, they prepare all the food (plenty of it, healthy and delicious), they plan the route and keep you safe in and out of the water. There are small groups of up to 7 people and you basically walk in the mountains and swim in the lakes, rivers and sea (whatever you fancy). Its not about how far you can swim or being a hardened triathlete. It’s about experiencing wild open water swimming and the silly, giddy, chilly sensation it gives you. I couldn’t stop smiling! Next trip – sea swimming off Anglesey. Anyone fancy coming? Check out www.goneswimming.co.uk

Many thanks, look forward to seeing you soon,

Philippa x

I urge you to take a look at their website, such a simple idea…shall we go as a group???

It’s fabulous to hear that so many of you have entered and re-entered the 14 km Bridge to Bridge, Henley to Marlow, epic swimming sportive this August. Did anyone manage to get in to the River Dart 10 km swim?

Can you believe it, many local lakes will be opening at the beginning of April for the start of another open water swimming season?! The Swim Shed has just taken delivery of the 2014 AquaSphere wetsuit range. We are offering a personal fitting service and a 10% discount to all Shed Heads.

If I don’t see you at the drop in swim session tomorrow night, have a fabulous, hopefullydry weekend of swim, bike, running, walking, mowing, eating, drinking and not too much DIYing…and remember,
